Financial Analyst

Position Summary
The Financial Analyst will play a key role in connecting corporate financial strategy with the clinical and R&D programs of a clinical-stage biotechnology company. This individual will be responsible for tracking and reporting R&D contractual commitments, spend, and accruals, as well as translating clinical progress and complex vendor arrangements into accurate forecasts and budgets. Partnering closely with the VP, Finance, this role will deliver clear, actionable insights to support decision-making, capital allocation, and the company’s continued growth. The role requires strong analytical capability, experience in a public-company environment, and a solid understanding of biotech industry dynamics, including clinical trial spend, pipeline development, and cash runway management.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Planning & Forecasting
- Support and coordinate the annual budgeting process and quarterly reforecasting cycles across all departments
- Partner with R&D and Clinical teams to forecast trial timelines, enrollment assumptions, and spend
Contracts and Accruals
- Own end-to-end tracking of R&D contractual commitments and spend, maintaining and evolving the agreement tracking framework as a core financial dataset
- Review complex R&D invoices against contractual terms and budgets
- Develop and maintain accrual models aligned to clinical progress and contract terms
- Partner with Clinical and Accounting to ensure accurate, timely accruals
- Ensure alignment across contract data, actuals, and forecast
Public Company Reporting Support
- Support quarterly and annual reporting processes, including MD&A and earnings materials
- Collaborate with Accounting on variance analysis (actuals vs. budget/forecast)
- Ensure alignment with public company financial reporting standards and regulatory timelines
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related field (MBA/CPA preferred)
- 3–5+ years of FP&A, corporate finance, or investment banking experience
- Experience in biotech, pharma, or life sciences strongly preferred
- Prior experience in a publicly traded company environment required
Technical Skills
- Advanced financial modeling and Excel skills
- Familiarity with ERP and planning systems (e.g., Netsuite)
- Understanding of GAAP and public company reporting requirements
